Dr. Tamra Montroy came from a family of dentists and has helped run her father’s dental practice since 1999. After growing her father’s practice for nearly ten years, Dr. Montroy decided it was time to start a practice of her own. She started Joy Family Dental in 2021 as a practice based on honest dentistry, family, and friendship. With a passion for dentistry, our team goes above and beyond to give our patients an enjoyable experience. What can I expect during my first dental appointment?
Your first visit is designed to be thorough and personalized. We begin with a comprehensive exam and digital x-rays, followed by an evaluation of your teeth, gums, bite, and overall oral health. The doctor also performs an oral cancer screening and takes time to discuss any concerns, treatment recommendations, and long-term goals for your smile. Most new patient appointments last about 90 minutes.
Do you offer a dental membership plan?

What should I bring to my first appointment?
To help us provide the best care possible, please bring a list of current medications, past surgeries or hospitalizations, your medical history, and any dental appliances you currently use. For x-rays, we recommend avoiding jewelry and wearing comfortable clothing. Since our office is kept cool for comfort and cleanliness, bringing a light jacket or sweater can also help you feel more relaxed during your visit.
Do you see children and family patients?
Yes. We welcome children ages 5 and older and enjoy caring for families. If a child needs specialized or complex pediatric treatment, we may recommend a trusted pediatric dental specialist to ensure they receive the best care possible.

We work with many major PPO dental insurance plans, including Aetna, Delta Dental, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Cigna, Humana, MetLife, United Healthcare, GEHA/Connection Dental, Mutual of Omaha, Loomis, and many others. Dental Check-ups
We encourage our patients to have routine dental exams and cleanings at our office in Watauga, TX, every six months. These check-ups are important for Dr. Montroy to ensure no problems or complications need to be addressed.
Teeth Whitening
Joy Family Dental uses the revolutionary ZOOM! Chairside Whitening System to provide our patients with a brighter smile in as little as one hour. We also offer traditional take-home whitening kits, which are much more effective than store-bought whitening kits. Dr. Montroy recommends using professional teeth whitening products over store-bought teeth whitening treatments to prevent unnecessary sensitivity or damage.
Dental Fillings
Fillings are the most common treatment for cavities. Dr. Montroy will remove the decayed portion of your tooth and then fill in the area where the decay was removed. Fillings can also be used to repair broken or cracked teeth or teeth worn down from misuse, such as tooth grinding or nail biting habits.
Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are caps placed over the top of damaged teeth to protect and restore the shape of your teeth if fillings don’t solve the problem. Dental crowns can be made from metals, resin, ceramics, and porcelain. They don’t require special care over time other than good oral hygiene habits.
